Can't accommodate a mobile visit? Refer your patient for outpatient ultrasound at Schrag Animal Clinic, Tuesday mornings 9 am–12 pm. Same diagnostic quality, same clear reporting, your client drops off and we take it from there.

HOW IT WORKS

Send your documents.
Email the completed form, along with bloodwork and electronic medical records, to ovdirecords@gmail.com.
**Put "Outpatient Ultrasound Request" and the patient name in the subject line.
Step 1
Complete the Referral Form.
Fill out the outpatient ultrasound referral form. Be sure to include your practice's and the owner's contact information.
Step 2
Patient drop-off.
Patients are dropped off at Schrag Animal Clinic at 7:30 am on Tuesday mornings. You and your client will receive confirmation and reminders by text and email.
Step 3
We schedule the appointment.
Our referral coordinator will reach out to you and/or your client to book a Tuesday morning slot.

FASTING, SEDATION & FOLLOW-UP
Tips for a good appointment
Fasting
Patients need to be fasted for 12 hours before check-in.
For diabetic patients, small patients, or young puppies where hypoglycemia is a concern, a shorter fast is fine.
If a meal is needed beforehand, a small amount of wet food or gruel is best. Try to avoid kibble. Water is always okay.
Sedation
Most ultrasounds require sedation.
This is to keep your patient comfortable, properly positioned, and to capture the clearest images.
We follow a fear-free approach and recommend a combination of trazodone and gabapentin to manage anxiety.
Please determine the correct dosage based on your patient's species, weight, and response to the medication. A dose can be given the night before and again the morning of the appointment—with this protocol, additional sedation often isn't needed.

Follow-Up
After the appointment, both the referring veterinarian and the owner receive a copy of the ultrasound report.
All follow-up care is managed by you, the referring veterinarian. We recommend scheduling a recheck to review the results with your client.
